RUBY

Female, 2.5 years old, Wheelchair

Pug Nation, Foster Army Animal Rescue

Current on Shots. 15” Collar. 30 lbs

Ruby is missing her two back paws and tail. X-rays determined it was a traumatic event that took her paws and tail. She has a longer stump that she uses to help balance her to walk.

Ruby is cautious around certain people and barks often when not with handler or someone she knows.

Ruby can sometimes snap at other pups or people who come too close. She is well behaved when with her handlers and anything food related to keep her distracted.

Ruby first came to Foster Army Animal Rescue in January, 2019, a tiny frightened “bi-pawd” puppy. Rescued from the Riverside Shelter, her mom and siblings all were adopted out. She being the only one with a disability, not having 2 back paws kept her longer in the shelter until she was rescued.
After major stump revision surgery on one of her back nubs and learning to use 3 different size wheelchairs as she grew, Ruby started to flourish despite her disabilities. Her foster family started an IG for her and gained many followers who helped support her through her surgery, her wheelchairs and even helped fund a prosthetic device. This device would tremendously help her spine and body be straighter without being hunched over. When first getting the prosthetic, Ruby did not like it. After a month, her fosters realized it was too big and had it sent back to bionic pets (prosthetic device maker) for adjustments. After 8 months of practicing and a global pandemic to really have the time for daily prosthetic work, in April, 2020 Ruby finally started walking in her device. It was amazing to see how much she has overcome and many thought she would never be able to learn to use her prosthetic. Five months later her fosters became first time homeowners of almost an acre of land for Ruby to run in. She officially became a foster failure in September, 2020.
Ruby, a true underdog, has been thriving ever since.
